Experience the real Japan with Kotobuki!

We’ve all seen the familiar images of skyscrapers in Shinjuku, or tranquil temple gardens in Kyoto. But have you ever wondered what lies behind them – how the Japanese really live?

Here at Kotobuki, we go out of our way to introduce you to the genuine, living Japan. We are based in Itoigawa, only two hours from Tokyo on the brand new Hokuriku Shinkansen, yet whose inhabitants keep their traditions alive. A Japan Sea port with a lively fishing industry, yet surrounded by mountains, and blessed with a variety of unique scenery due to its location right on the Fossa Magna, the geological dividing line between east and west Japan. Here, you can soak in a hot spring in the mountains before breakfast, try on a kimono before lunch, learn how to prepare green tea, meet some sumo wrestlers in the afternoon, before dining on fresh sashimi that evening. And if you’re lucky, you might even experience one of the unique local festivals.
